McAfee Removal
Tool
The Stinger McAfee Removal
Tool
McAfee offers a standalone removal tool that is used to remove
specific threats as well as one that is released to deal with medium
to high-risk threats. The Stinger is not a scanner and is typically
used by administrators, technicians, and users on systems that have
already been verified as being infected. Typically, the McAfee
removal tool is released when a particularly difficult piece of
spyware or virus is released. It uses components of installed McAfee
anti-virus software in order to be able to complete its task
successfully.
Scanning For And Cleaning Families Of Viruses
The main McAfee removal tool, the Stinger, is a generic threat
removal tool that looks for spyware and families of spyware that
warrant a medium or high risk threat level. Once installed on your
system it is extremely quick to install and to run. You can
configure the Stinger to run on your hard drive and any other areas
of your system. It will then scan for the list of viruses and
spyware that are included in the release you have. The Stinger is
set to automatically remove any of these threats if found.
Removing The Latest Viruses
The McAfee removal tool is commonly used for threats that the main
McAfee software struggles to cope with. If you have any problems
removing a virus or spyware application from your computer then
check to see if a Stinger exists for that family of threats. The
Stinger can be updated to ensure that it scans for the very latest
medium risk threats, and to ensure it completely removes all of
their traces.
Threat-Specific Stingers
The threat specific McAfee removal tool is also called the Stinger
but is only deployed in order to locate and remove a single piece of
spyware or a single virus. It will search for all known components,
and look for typical activities that correspond to that threat and
take action to remove or clean them. Again, the Stinger is set to
clean or remove the items by default.
Removing Stubborn Viruses
Some viruses, worms, Trojans, and malware applications can be very
difficult to locate and remove using traditional security software.
It is in cases like these that the McAfee removal tool is
particularly useful. Neither version of the Stinger is meant or
designed as a replacement for full anti-virus software or other
security applications. They work well as threat and family specific
removal tools but you should not rely on their use alone.
McAfee Removal Tool
The Stinger is the McAfee removal tool that is used to cleanse your
system of specific families of threats or individual threats. These
medium to high risk threats are typically very difficult to remove
from your system using conventional security software, hence the
release of the Stinger. The Stinger is meant to be used as an
addition to your anti-virus software, rather than as a replacement.
There are a large number of viruses that the Stingers do not scan
for and do not clean or remove.
